Spinning Drop with Image Analysis!
Good news for the measurement of extremely low interfacial tensions: with the SITE100 the user now has a spinning drop tensiometer with automatic image analysis available. The SITE100 continues the long tradition of KRÜSS spinning drop measurements with the most up-to-date technology. It combines the time-proven and absolutely reliable mechanisms of the preceding instrument generations with the vast experience in video-supported image analysis at KRÜSS. The Spinning Drop Module of the DSA2 Drop Shape Analysis software controls the required speed, calculates the interfacial tension – also a function of time – and outputs these with the current sample temperature. The digitally controlled motor ensures a constant variation-free rotation at up to 15000 rpm. This high maximum speed is directly beneficial in the large measuring range down to
10-6 mN/m.

The design of the instrument allows measurements to be made throughout any periods of time and permits continuous observation of the achievement of the equilibrium condition. This latter is of particular interest whenever the dynamics and the coefficients of diffusion of the surfactants and stabilizers under test allow a very slow approach to the equilibrium condition.

The double lens system with defined image scales makes it easy to change between different sized drops and surrounding phases. The ergonomic software simplifies operation. The well-proven and well-thought-out concept allows rapid and problem-free measurements even with a high sample throughput.

More than 20 years’ experience in spinning drop technology combined with the most modern video techniques: SITE100

The PocketDyne bubble pressure tensiometer now with software
- LabDesk Add-In available

The appropriate LabDesk Add-In for data recording is now available for the handy PocketDyne bubble pressure tensiometer (Fig. 1).

Fig. 1: PocketDyne tensiometer with its new LabDesk software

This PocketDyne Add-In offers the following possibilities:

Determination of the dynamic surface tension by the bubble pressure method
Single measurements and collection of measurements on different samples
Measured value transmission at regular defined intervals
Transmission of measuring data recorded offline
Comfortable data management in databases and projects,
  graphic presentation of data
Compilation and printout of measurement reports

With respect to operator guidance we have retained the standards used by Windows programs. This means that, if you are familiar with the way that Windows functions, the operation of LabDesk should present you with no problems (Fig. 2).

Data management is simply carried out by setting up databases in which as many projects as required can be stored. Measurements that belong together are collected in a project.

LabDesk is GLP-conform and can therefore also be used for quality assurance in certified companies.

Small, smaller, KRÜSS Nanoliterdosing System
Contact angle measurements on micro-mechanical assemblies, on the points of nails, on hairs or in the finest grooves? Impossible?

Not with the new Nanoliterdosing System from KRÜSS !

This dosing system is able to generate droplets down to a minimum size of 0.2 nl. In combination with the optional macro attachment lens and illumination module droplets can be deposited on very small objects down to 140 µm and then measured precisely and format-filling.

Handling is made easier by positioning the sample and dosing on separate high-precision X-Y-Z stages; these permit the exact setting of the dosing position and focusing. A new type of construction of the inserted guides ensures absolute play-free settings. A clamping device for foil and paper is additionally built into the sample stage, this makes measurements in the inkjet printing sector particularly easy, no matter whether the substrate or the ink is to be optimized. The dosing system is also equipped with a 0.5 ml liquid reservoir which allows long series of measurements to be carried out without any refills.

The fascination arising from being able to make accurate and easy contact angle measurements on objects that are barely visible to the naked eye can hardly be described in words – it is a new dimension in contact angle measuring technology which you simply have to experience for yourself.
